Requirements
- Demonstrated expertise in the review and handling of FOIA cases.
- Relevant training and experience in FOIA case processing, disclosure review, and records redaction.
- Strong working knowledge of FOIA processes and federal laws.
- Understanding of federal agency FOIA operations and coordination across offices.
- Strong analytical, writing, and organizational skills.
- Familiarity with case-management systems, SharePoint, Box, and eDiscovery tools.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Tier 1 background investigation.
- Must comply with HSPD-12/PIV requirements.
Responsibilities
- Request, identify, review, and analyze records responsive to assigned FOIA requests, backlogged cases, appeals, and litigation matters.
- Conduct disclosure reviews and apply appropriate FOIA exemptions using independent judgment consistent with federal laws and agency policies.
- Coordinate with Government FOIA staff, program offices, and records custodians to clarify request scope and search terms.
- Prepare records for release using approved redaction tools, including sanitization and Bates numbering.
- Support litigation matters by reviewing records in eDiscovery tools and preparing correspondence or Vaughn-indexes.
- Implement approved search terms in eDiscovery systems and document search activities.
- Maintain accurate case files and documentation within designated tracking systems.
- Review work for completeness, accuracy, and consistent exemption application prior to government submission.
- Identify processing barriers and recommend workflow improvements to reduce rework.
