Requirements
- 7+ years of experience managing engineering teams, ideally in search, discovery, or a closely related domain.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with search infrastructure and information retrieval systems (e.g., OpenSearch, Elasticsearch, Solr, or vector/AI search).
- Familiarity with SEO engineering, content quality systems, or personalisation and recommendations at scale.
- Proven track record of leading engineering teams to deliver complex software using modern agile practices.
- Strong understanding of modern software development practices and architectural patterns across cloud, web, or mobile.
- Demonstrated effectiveness operating in a global company with the discipline required to work across time zones.
- Ability to translate technical complexity for non-technical stakeholders.
- Inclusive collaboration skills with the ability to lead teams through change.
- Experience using AI tooling in day-to-day workflows.
- Strong mentoring, performance management, and coaching skills.
Responsibilities
- Lead delivery planning, work breakdown, and dependency management for product and technical objectives.
- Partner with product managers and engineering leadership to translate OKRs into actionable team goals.
- Manage performance, career development, and feedback for a team of 5-7 engineers and data scientists.
- Establish and maintain effective workflows for a distributed team operating across three time zones.
- Steward the domain's architecture to ensure solutions align with company standards and business objectives.
- Champion operational ownership, observability, and system reliability.
