Requirements
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology.
- Active Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or (PL.Eng.) designation with authority to stamp design packages.
- Proficient in medium/high voltage power engineering.
- 2–8+ years of experience in the Utilities industry preferred.
- Strong ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics.
- Experience with computer-assisted engineering software such as MicroStation and AutoCAD.
- Knowledge of communication protocols (IEC 61850, IEC 60870-5, DNP3, Modbus).
- Familiarity with cybersecurity standards (IEC 62351, NERC CIP).
- Ability to work in both office and on-site field environments.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and organizational skills.
- Eligible for registration with APEGA.
Responsibilities
- Provide expert guidance, training, and mentorship to the design team through project execution, QA/QC reviews, and technical development.
- Design, check, and approve automation and SCADA designs and configurations for utility and industrial facilities.
- Act as a lead technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) for projects involving utility infrastructure, wind, solar, and BESS.
- Prepare and approve complete engineering packages, including schematics, network architecture, and bills of materials.
- Configure and integrate SCADA systems, RTUs, PLCs, and communication networks.
- Design and implement communication networks using protocols such as IEC 61850, DNP3, and Modbus.
- Incorporate cybersecurity standards including IEC 62351 and NERC CIP into system designs.
- Support project phases from design and procurement through to construction, commissioning, and site acceptance testing.
