Requirements
- Significant experience as Staff Engineer, Principal Engineer, or equivalent.
- Deep understanding of database internals and distributed systems (storage, indexing, sharding, consistency).
- Proven experience designing and operating production databases with multi-terabyte datasets.
- Experience with high-throughput production systems handling 30K–50K+ operations per second.
- Strong production experience across relational and NoSQL database technologies.
- Demonstrated leadership in major architectural changes and scalability initiatives.
- Expertise in database reliability, capacity planning, observability, and infrastructure economics.
- Ability to drive complex, ambiguous technical problems to execution with organizational alignment.
- Excellent communication and influence skills.
- Programming experience in Node.js, Java, or Python.
- Strong architectural fundamentals and ability to reason about technology trade-offs.
Responsibilities
- Define and evolve long-term database and data infrastructure strategy.
- Design architectures supporting significant growth in data volume and traffic.
- Establish architectural standards for partitioning, sharding, replication, and consistency.
- Lead cross-functional initiatives like database migrations, re-platforming, and multi-region architectures.
- Identify and mitigate reliability, scalability, and performance risks.
- Develop self-service platform capabilities to improve developer experience and infrastructure efficiency.
- Establish capacity planning, disaster recovery, and data lifecycle management strategies.
- Mentor engineers and influence long-term technical direction.
