Requirements
- Track record of applied AI/ML research, specifically in LLM application design, agentic systems, evals, or production AI reliability.
- Strong experimental design and analysis skills, capable of testing hypotheses rigorously.
- Strong engineering fundamentals with the ability to prototype experiments independently.
- Deep familiarity with LLMs, tool use, context management, and failure modes of agentic systems.
- Strong written communication skills to ensure research findings lead to actionable decisions.
- Rigorous yet pragmatic approach to determining when findings are ready to act upon.
- Comfortable working with ambiguity in a lean, fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in leveraging AI agents as a force multiplier for development tasks.
- Bias for action and a focus on shipping high-quality, practical research outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Design and run experiments to test how Bolter's agents behave regarding reliability, context retention, and multi-step task completion.
- Build and own the evaluation layer by designing evals that measure actual task performance rather than just plausibility.
- Research the frontier of LLM agents and tool use, translating state-of-the-art findings into product strategy.
- Produce clear, actionable recommendations that guide the engineering team's product roadmap.
- Take promising research ideas from experiment to working prototype and hand off successful features for implementation.
- Shape the long-term research roadmap as the platform evolves.
