Requirements

  • Track record of applied AI/ML research, specifically in LLM application design, agentic systems, evals, or production AI reliability.
  • Strong experimental design and analysis skills, capable of testing hypotheses rigorously.
  • Strong engineering fundamentals with the ability to prototype experiments independently.
  • Deep familiarity with LLMs, tool use, context management, and failure modes of agentic systems.
  • Strong written communication skills to ensure research findings lead to actionable decisions.
  • Rigorous yet pragmatic approach to determining when findings are ready to act upon.
  • Comfortable working with ambiguity in a lean, fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in leveraging AI agents as a force multiplier for development tasks.
  • Bias for action and a focus on shipping high-quality, practical research outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Design and run experiments to test how Bolter's agents behave regarding reliability, context retention, and multi-step task completion.
  • Build and own the evaluation layer by designing evals that measure actual task performance rather than just plausibility.
  • Research the frontier of LLM agents and tool use, translating state-of-the-art findings into product strategy.
