Requirements
- Hold a degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
- Bring approximately 8 or more years of progressive experience in commissioning, electrical power systems, renewable-energy EPC, substations, power generation, utility-scale energy storage, or a closely related field.
- Have direct commissioning or field-testing experience with utility-scale battery energy storage systems.
- Demonstrate a successful track record of leading technical teams and coordinating multiple projects or geographically distributed field teams.
- Possess a strong understanding of electrical power systems, including medium- and high-voltage equipment, transformers, switchgear, protection and controls, grounding, electrical drawings, and single-line diagrams.
- Have practical knowledge of battery systems, power conversion systems, plant controls, EMS, SCADA, PPC, and grid-connected testing.
- Understand construction sequencing, project scheduling, contractual milestones, utility requirements, grid-compliance testing, and commercial-operation requirements.
- Demonstrate strong leadership, professional judgment, conflict-resolution, and decision-making skills, particularly when managing high-pressure field situations.
- Be comfortable working across diverse stakeholders, including customers, utilities, contractors, engineering teams, and internal leadership.
- Be willing and able to travel throughout North America up to 50% and remain onsite for two to three weeks when project requirements demand it.
Responsibilities
- Lead, coach, and develop Commissioning Managers while providing direction and support to commissioning engineers, technicians, and other field personnel.
- Oversee commissioning execution across a portfolio of utility-scale battery energy storage projects throughout North America.
- Manage staffing priorities, site assignments, mobilization schedules, resource forecasts, and competing project requirements across the portfolio.
- Develop and oversee project-specific commissioning strategies, plans, schedules, procedures, inspection requirements, and turnover processes.
- Act as the senior escalation point for technical issues, safety concerns, schedule risks, resource conflicts, and customer concerns during commissioning activities.
- Provide technical leadership during energization, system commissioning, troubleshooting, performance testing, and acceptance testing.
- Oversee commissioning activities involving battery energy storage systems, power conversion systems, transformers, medium- and high-voltage equipment, protection and controls, grounding, EMS, SCADA, PPC, and related balance-of-plant systems.
- Ensure commissioning reports, daily reports, issue logs, job safety analyses, quality documentation, and project turnover packages are completed accurately and on schedule.
