Requirements
- 4–7 years of experience in nonprofit, advocacy, congressional, or public policy communications.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate complex research into clear, compelling content.
- Experience developing and executing earned media strategy, including press release production and journalist relationship-building.
- Demonstrated ability to manage outside communications, media, and grassroots contractors.
- Strong editorial judgment and copy editing skills.
- Experience managing newsletter or email communications production and distribution.
- Experience developing or stewarding organizational media channels like social media and blogs.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to coordinate effectively with internal staff and partner organizations.
- Experience with science communication is highly valued.
- Graphic design and video editing proficiency (e.g., Adobe Premiere or CapCut) is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Support the development and implementation of AWR’s overall communications strategy.
- Develop and maintain AWR's communications channels, ensuring consistent voice and quality.
- Create and disseminate communications products including briefs, fact sheets, and public-facing summaries.
- Develop and distribute press releases and earned media materials.
- Manage the production, distribution, and growth of the monthly newsletter.
- Coordinate with outside contractors, including media strategy, paid media, and grassroots list vendors.
- Collaborate with partner organizations to develop talking points, op-eds, and coalition materials.
- Monitor media coverage and identify opportunities for rapid response to breaking news.
