Requirements

  • 5+ years of commercial lines underwriting experience preferred.
  • Four-year college degree preferred.
  • Completion of, or progress toward, AU, CIC, and/or CPCU designations preferred.
  • Advanced risk evaluation capabilities and strong knowledge of insurance contracts.
  • Ability to execute underwriting strategy effectively and make sound decisions within delegated authority.
  • Strong leadership capabilities, including the ability to mentor, coach, train, and support colleagues.
  • Advanced knowledge of agency relationships and the current commercial insurance market.
  • Proven sales capabilities and a track record of growing a profitable book of business.
  • Advanced communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Willingness to travel based on the assigned territory and book of business.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable motor vehicle record required.

Responsibilities

  • Profitably underwrite complex new and renewal commercial business through disciplined risk selection, pricing, contractual review, account management, and regulatory compliance.
  • Apply critical thinking to assess exposures, evaluate controls, determine appropriate pricing, and establish terms and conditions that support a profitable portfolio.
  • Drive production goals within the assigned territory through marketing, prospecting, agency engagement, and development of a strong new business pipeline.
  • Conduct in-person and virtual sales calls with agencies and insureds while developing and maintaining trusted relationships with producers and agency partners.
  • Collaborate with underwriting, Sales and Distribution, Underwriting Center, Underwriting Support, Risk Control, Legal, Claims, and other internal partners.
  • Mentor, coach, and train team members while serving as a resource for questions, escalated issues, and complex underwriting decisions.
  • Represent the field underwriting perspective in corporate initiatives and strategic projects.
