Requirements
- Current AAPC or AHIMA certification held for a minimum of 3 years.
- Minimum of 3+ years of professional coding experience.
- Strong working knowledge of CPT and ICD-10-CM coding.
- Proficiency in medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
- Deep understanding of state and federal Medicare reimbursement guidelines.
- Experience working in a medical billing environment with strict HIPAA compliance.
- Ability to research and analyze data to resolve coding or documentation issues.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply complex policies, laws, and regulations.
Responsibilities
- Review and resolve assigned front-end claim holds independently.
- Assign ICD-10-CM and CPT codes with appropriate modifiers for professional fee services.
- Review medical records and documentation to determine accurate codes for services and diagnoses.
- Ensure all diagnosis codes meet local and national medical necessity guidelines.
- Maintain a minimum of 90% coding accuracy.
- Utilize internal resources and payer guidelines for compliant coding.
- Follow all HIPAA regulations and maintain privacy and confidentiality.
- Escalate coding-related questions and client trends to the Coding Team Lead.
