Requirements

  • 2 years of professional experience with medical records.
  • 1 year of customer service experience.
  • High school diploma.
  • Familiarity with federal and state laws and regulations concerning medical records, including HIPAA Standards.
  • Strong computer skills with emphasis on Adobe PDF, MS Office Word, and Excel.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to work in a team-centered environment.
  • Ability to work effectively with other departments, physicians, and ancillary staff.
  • Ability to relate well to people, build rapport, use diplomacy, and diffuse high-tension situations.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to requests for medical record information from health care providers, patients, attorneys, third-party payors, and internal departments.
  • Ensure confidentiality of information releases in compliance with HIPAA federal regulations, state laws, and company policy.
  • Analyze content of medical record documents to determine scanning requirements and upload files into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
  • Notify providers to request approval for document release per policies and via the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • Escalate unresolved or frequent medical records issues to management.
  • Maintain privacy compliance for all documentation released.
