Requirements
- 8+ years of experience as a Controller, Director of Accounting, or Chief Accounting Officer in private business.
- Specific tenure in Construction and/or Real Estate Development industries.
- Expertise in accounting software programs, Excel, and Google Workspace.
- Deep understanding of WIP schedules, AIA billing, Percentage of Completion accounting, and certified payroll.
- Experience in multi-entity real estate consolidations and construction draw management.
- Proven track record of operating effectively in a remote role.
- Ability to quickly absorb context across multiple concurrent client entities.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Active CPA or CCIFP designation is a strong bonus.
Responsibilities
- Support the VP of Operations and other Vessel Advisors Controllers and/or CFOs by handling accounting questions, financial reporting needs, month-end close management, ad-hoc advisory requests, and client correspondence.
- Manage daily escalations, client processes, and month-end close schedules ensuring on-time delivery of financial statements.
- Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including CEOs, developers, and contractors.
- Lead Financial Discovery Assessments for new client engagements with infrequent travel.
- Review job costs, WIP schedules, Percentage of Completion revenue recognition, and AIA billings.
- Oversee multi-entity real estate development financials including lender draw packages and NNN/CAM reconciliations.
- Prepare annual budgets, project pro formas, and long-range forecasts.
- Manage audit and lender relations including coordination with external CPAs and bonding agents.
