Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
  • 8–10 years of overall claims experience, including substantial experience in both field and desk adjusting.
  • 5–10 years of direct experience handling large-loss property claims.
  • Extensive expertise in personal property losses, additional living expense claims, and complex residential and commercial property damage.
  • Deep knowledge of construction processes, including permitting, reconstruction, repair techniques, construction methods, and damage assessment.
  • Proven ability to prepare accurate, code-compliant reconstruction estimates using Xactimate or comparable claims estimating technology.
  • Strong understanding of contractor relationships, service providers, competitive pricing, and claim-related repair requirements.
  • Strong investigative and analytical skills, including experience identifying coverage issues, origin and cause considerations, fraud indicators, and subrogation opportunities.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, customer service, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to use alternative dispute resolution techniques such as mediation, arbitration, and appraisal effectively.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, as well as claims management and estimating software.
  • Valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, and ability to travel to claim locations on short notice.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of residential and commercial large-loss property claims, from initial assignment and investigation through settlement and closure.
  • Coordinate the measurement and evaluation of structural damage, personal property, loss of use, business interruption, and mitigation efforts.
  • Conduct thorough claim investigations, including determining the origin and cause of losses and identifying potential coverage issues.
  • Prepare accurate, code-compliant reconstruction estimates using Xactimate and other appropriate estimating tools.
  • Assess construction methods, repair requirements, permitting considerations, and reconstruction needs to support accurate claim valuations.
  • Work closely with contractors, service providers, policyholders, and other parties involved in the claim resolution process.
  • Support subrogation and fraud investigations, including identifying relevant opportunities and securing salvage or subrogation items when required.
  • Utilize alternative dispute resolution methods, including mediation, arbitration, and appraisal.
  • Travel to loss locations on short notice to meet policyholders, contractors, and service providers and conduct on-site assessments.
