Requirements
- 15+ years building production software.
- 8+ years leading engineers and significant time leading engineering managers.
- Proven technical credibility with recent experience writing or reviewing production code.
- Deep experience with distributed backend systems at scale: data modeling, consistency, idempotency, event-driven design, and operational realities.
- Track record of raising engineering standards and measurable improvements in quality, velocity, or reliability.
- Experience in payments, fintech, banking infrastructure, or domains requiring high correctness for ledgers and regulations.
- Demonstrated ability to hire and develop engineering managers.
- Clear written communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders.
- Executive-level presence for board and partner engagements.
Responsibilities
- Own engineering strategy and architecture across card issuing, wallets, ledger, money movement, onchain settlement, and partner integrations.
- Set and own engineering quality bar across system design, code review, testing, observability, and technical decision-making.
- Review critical designs and weigh in on high-consequence architecture and build-vs.-buy decisions.
- Drive reliability, scalability, and operational excellence through SLOs, incident response, and capacity planning.
- Build security, compliance, and correctness into the platform by design, partnering with Risk, Compliance, and Security teams.
- Increase engineering velocity by improving CI/CD, developer tooling, and technical debt management.
- Build and develop a high-performing engineering organization by hiring and coaching engineering managers and technical leads.
- Operate as a member of the leadership team, representing engineering to the board, partners, and customers.
