Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • 8 to 10+ years of progressive financial management experience in a nonprofit setting.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a financial leadership role.
  • Demonstrated expertise in nonprofit financial management, grant compliance, and fund accounting.
  • Experience managing outsourced accounting providers, auditors, and vendors.
  • Experience owning an organizational budget through a Board approval cycle.
  • Proficiency in financial management software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite).
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to communicate complex financial concepts to non-financial audiences.
  • CPA certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Set and steward the organization’s multi-year financial strategy and long-range planning models.
  • Lead the annual budget development process and present findings to the Board for approval.
  • Oversee financial operations, including accounting, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
  • Manage the relationship with retained accounting partners to ensure strong internal controls and segregation of duties.
  • Prepare accurate financial reports for internal and external stakeholders, including the Board and its committees.
  • Establish written protocols and internal controls to safeguard organizational assets and ensure grant compliance.
  • Supervise finance team members and collaborate with leadership to align financial strategy with mission-driven objectives.
