Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Bioinformatics, or related field (advanced degree preferred).
- At least 5 years of professional experience building and operating production software or data systems.
- At least 2 years of experience shipping LLM-powered applications (agents, retrieval, or evaluation frameworks).
- Strong end-to-end retrieval engineering experience (indexing, query construction, optimization).
- Experience evaluating retrieval systems using metrics such as Recall@K or MRR.
- Strong Python skills, including FastAPI, Pydantic, and pytest.
- Deep PostgreSQL experience, including pgvector, full-text search, and query optimization.
- Hands-on experience with structured model outputs, tool calling, and typed schemas.
- Working knowledge of containers and Kubernetes for deployment and troubleshooting.
- Working proficiency with Next.js, React, and TypeScript.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain biomedical knowledge models for rare disease research using PostgreSQL.
- Develop retrieval-augmented services utilizing embeddings, semantic search, and model-based disambiguation.
- Design and operate keyword and vector retrieval systems, balancing recall, relevance, and latency.
- Develop user-facing interfaces for research tools using Next.js, React, and TypeScript.
- Deploy and maintain AI services within Kubernetes environments, including Helm and GPU scheduling.
- Establish evaluation frameworks using regression suites and benchmarks to ensure system quality.
- Collaborate with clinical geneticists and researchers to translate real-world needs into technical solutions.
- Contribute to scientific publications, research outputs, and conference materials.
