Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Biomedical Informatics, or related field (advanced degree preferred; equivalent professional experience considered).
  • At least 5 years building and operating production software or data systems.
  • At least 2 years shipping LLM-powered applications (agents, retrieval, or evaluation).
  • Proficiency in Python, FastAPI, Pydantic, and pytest.
  • Experience with structured output, tool calling, and constraining models to typed schemas.
  • Experience evaluating LLM systems using golden sets, regression suites, or model-based graders.
  • Experience with PostgreSQL, including embeddings or vector search.
  • Proficiency in containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) for service deployment and operation.
  • Experience with Git-based collaboration and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust Security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Build agentic AI systems for rare disease research workflows, including conversation logic and automated confirmation steps.
  • Implement data output using Pydantic for typed, validated, and traceable structured data.
  • Write, version, and regression test prompts and output schemas for clinical and scientific reasoning tasks.
  • Develop evaluation frameworks including golden sets, offline regression suites, and model-based graders.
  • Maintain responsive multi-step LLM workflows under load using async design, concurrency management, and streaming.
  • Log system behavior, reasoning, and errors to ensure transparency and reviewability for NIH staff.
  • Translate needs from clinicians, researchers, and patient communities into data models and system behavior.
  • Contribute to manuscripts, conference abstracts, and posters with NIH investigators.
