Requirements
- Five years of life underwriting experience.
- Demonstrated ability to perform financial underwriting, including evaluation of life financial supplements and complex beneficiary situations.
- In-depth knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathology, and non-medical risks.
- Advanced communication skills for negotiating offers and explaining decisions to advisors or sales leaders.
- Proficiency in underwriting administrative systems.
- Understanding of facultative reinsurance and independent distribution systems.
- Resilience and ability to set priorities while meeting quality and time-service standards.
- Preferred: Undergraduate degree in medical-related fields, finance, risk management, or business.
- Preferred: LOMA Level 1 Certificate (LOMA 280, 290) or ALU/ALMI designations.
Responsibilities
- Receive, evaluate, and underwrite complex life insurance applications up to specified handling limits.
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of manuals, underwriting regulations, and medical factors impacting mortality and morbidity.
- Evaluate applications requiring additional evidence of insurability and authorize necessary medical or inspection reports.
- Apply risk-based decision-making skills within the accelerated underwriting process.
- Consult with internal medical staff and reinsurance partners for complex cases or referred applications.
- Interpret electrocardiogram tracings and evaluate financial information to establish insurable interest.
- Provide mentorship and training to less experienced team members.
