Requirements
- 6+ years of professional experience building and operating production software, with demonstrated senior-level ownership of distributed and high-throughput systems.
- Expert-level proficiency in Java and the modern Java ecosystem, including frameworks such as Spring Boot or Quarkus, concurrency, and microservices.
- Strong working knowledge of JavaScript/TypeScript and modern client-side architectures, with the ability to support frontend integrations and UI-facing platform components.
- Practical experience integrating with healthcare EMR/EHR systems and interoperability standards such as FHIR, HL7, and SMART on FHIR.
- Experience delivering cloud-native services using AWS, Azure, or GCP, along with Docker/Kubernetes and Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform.
- Strong understanding of application and API security, including OAuth2, OIDC, mTLS, JWT, secrets management, and secure software development practices.
- Hands-on experience with observability practices and tooling covering metrics, distributed tracing, APM, log aggregation, and production incident triage.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create concise technical designs and clearly explain architectural trade-offs.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to take ownership of complex technical challenges with limited supervision.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Responsibilities
- Architect, develop, and scale core Java backend services that power consumer experiences and the broader platform ecosystem.
- Establish end-to-end architectural ownership across distributed, high-throughput systems while balancing long-term scalability with reliable delivery.
- Build and operate enterprise integrations with EMR/EHR platforms, including Epic/MyChart and other health systems, using HL7, FHIR, and modern interoperability patterns.
- Develop and maintain secure REST and event-driven APIs with robust authentication, authorization, auditing, and least-privilege controls.
- Produce clear technical documentation, including API documentation, OpenAPI specifications, system designs, and operational runbooks.
- Contribute to JavaScript/TypeScript components, client-side workflows, and integration touchpoints representing approximately 10–20% of the role.
- Own and improve CI/CD pipelines, automated unit, integration, and end-to-end testing, infrastructure-as-code, structured logging, and incident-response practices.
- Apply modern DevOps and observability practices to maintain reliable production systems and support effective operational troubleshooting.
- Collaborate with Product, Design, Engineering, and partner-facing teams to translate technical and business requirements into scalable, user-focused solutions.
- Contribute to data pipelines and analytical workloads using technologies such as Databricks and Apache Spark when relevant to integration and platform needs.
