Requirements
- Minimum of 6–8 years of experience in affordable housing finance, commercial banking, or community development lending.
- Significant experience independently underwriting complex multifamily real estate transactions.
- Demonstrated experience presenting or co-presenting transactions to credit or investment committees.
- Advanced proficiency in financial modeling, cash flow analysis, and credit analysis.
- Expert-level proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Strong ability to synthesize complex analysis and present investment recommendations clearly.
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent transactions independently with limited oversight.
- Experience with HUD and Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac multifamily programs is preferred.
- Experience with LIHTC, New Markets Tax Credits, or other public subsidy structures is preferred.
- Experience underwriting equity investments is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Independently manage the screening and underwriting of active affordable multifamily rental housing transactions.
- Perform advanced financial and credit analysis, including cash flows, budgets, debt service coverage, and sensitivity analyses.
- Draft letters of intent, term sheets, and credit memoranda that articulate transaction structure and risk.
- Lead due diligence and coordinate with borrowers, lenders, counsel, and internal teams through closing.
- Co-present investment recommendations to the Investment Committee and manage transaction pipeline.
- Serve as a technical resource for underwriting standards and provide mentorship to junior staff.
