Requirements
- 5+ years of medical coding experience with a focus on physician coding.
- Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management, Medical Coding, or equivalent experience.
- Active professional certification required (CPC, CPMA, CCS, CCS-P, RHIA, or RHIT).
- Strong knowledge of specialty-specific coding guidelines and regulations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with physicians and stakeholders.
- Proven ability to analyze coding trends and implement improvement initiatives.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and project management skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
- Flexibility to accommodate project timelines and physician schedules.
- Demonstrated openness to innovation and AI processes.
- Ability and willingness to travel 20-40% of the time to client or office sites.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate physician communications to ensure clear information exchange between the PRC Coding team and physicians.
- Answer telephone and email inquiries, including coding escalations, for the assigned specialty.
- Provide education and training to physicians and coders regarding specialty-specific coding guidelines and best practices.
- Serve as the primary specialty contact for providing expert guidance on coding matters.
- Conduct coder communications reviews to ensure accuracy, compliance, and adherence to standard operating models.
- Perform root cause analysis to identify coding trends and opportunities for process improvement.
- Support and lead coding opportunity improvement projects in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
- Execute special coding projects as assigned by leadership.
- Perform production coding as necessary to maintain KPIs.
