Requirements

  • Active CPC, COC, CCS, or CIC certification.
  • 2+ years of inpatient and/or outpatient facility coding experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS Level II coding.
  • Proficiency with DRGs, APCs, NCCI edits, and LCD/NCDs.
  • Understanding of CMS regulations and Official Coding Guidelines.
  • Experience using coding encoders and electronic medical record systems.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize work to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and Microsoft Office skills.

Responsibilities

  • Review inpatient, outpatient, ED, observation, surgery, and ancillary records.
  • Assign accurate ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, HCPCS, and modifier codes.
  • Review coding edits and work queues prior to claim submission.
  • Validate that documentation supports code assignment.
  • Query providers when documentation is incomplete or conflicting.
  • Review coding-related payer denials and perform root cause analysis.
  • Correct coding errors causing claim rejections and recommend appeals.
  • Collaborate with CDI, billing, providers, and revenue integrity teams.
  • Maintain HIPAA compliance and meet departmental productivity and QA standards.
