Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Hold a High School Diploma.
- Court-certified in California or with US Federal Courts preferred.
- If not certified, must have at least two years of onsite (in person) experience interpreting in legal/courts settings and/or for state/federal government offices.
- Full fluency in English and the target language.
- Trained and/or tested by recognized interpretation skills assessment organizations or higher education institutions.
- Provide three references confirming status as a professional onsite interpreter.
- Experience with virtual interpretation tools like Zoom.
- Ability to operate interpreter hardware including booths, control units, and FM transmitters.
- Submit to a criminal history background check.
Responsibilities
- Provide simultaneous and consecutive onsite and video remote interpretation for non-English speakers and state government representatives.
- Review necessary background documents prior to assignments to ensure understanding of context.
- Operate virtual interpretation tools such as Zoom effectively.
- Utilize technical equipment including tabletop sound booths, interpreter control units, FM transmitters, and headset/receivers.
- Maintain professional conduct, including managing conversation flow and intervening for clarification when necessary.
