Requirements
- Active membership in the Ohio Bar.
- At least 5 years of experience practicing insurance defense litigation.
- Demonstrated ability to litigate and defend clients in both state and federal courts.
- Strong experience handling tort and negligence actions as well as insurance coverage disputes.
- Experience with both personal and commercial insurance lines.
- Comprehensive knowledge of claim valuation, civil procedure, insurance contracts, and policy interpretation.
- Familiarity with the civil litigation market in Northeast and North Central Ohio.
- Valid Ohio driver's license and willingness to travel throughout Northeast and North Central Ohio and Western Pennsylvania.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams.
- Maintain compliance with applicable State Bar ethical standards and continuing legal education requirements.
Responsibilities
- Defend insured clients and the organization in pending litigation throughout assigned states, including state and federal court proceedings.
- Handle tort, negligence, insurance coverage, personal lines, and commercial lines matters while developing effective litigation strategies.
- Communicate promptly with claims legal personnel regarding litigation files, case developments, and resolution.
- Maintain accurate, organized, and professional litigation files in accordance with house counsel protocols.
- Participate in quality assurance reviews of litigation files and legal office procedures.
- Support office leadership with management reports and administrative processes.
- Assist with training and mentoring less experienced associate defense attorneys, paralegals, and legal secretaries.
- Use digital case-management platforms, secure AI-enabled tools, and virtual collaboration technologies.
