Requirements
- At least 10 years of hands-on software engineering experience, with a track record of designing, building, and maintaining production software.
- Recent, practical development experience with the ability to contribute effectively to a modern codebase.
- Proven experience managing software engineers in a growing technology organisation.
- Strong technical judgement and the ability to coach engineers and challenge technical decisions.
- Experience handling difficult conversations, performance concerns, and career development.
- Familiarity with PHP and Laravel, or experience with a comparable backend framework.
- Comfortable working in a remote-first environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Impeccable attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
- Ability to work IST 1.30pm-10pm.
Responsibilities
- Line manage software engineers, supporting their development, progression, and providing regular feedback.
- Monitor capacity, surface risks, and help teams remove blockers to improve delivery predictability.
- Develop and improve engineering management practices, including onboarding, succession planning, and retention.
- Contribute directly to software development for 20% to 40% of the time, including production code, prototypes, and internal tools.
- Coach engineers and maintain technical standards by contributing to technical decisions and staying close to the work.
