Requirements
- Deep production experience operating a database or analytical store under concurrent, customer-facing load.
- Advanced proficiency in SQL and understanding of columnar/OLAP execution models.
- Solid background in backend engineering (Java preferred).
- Proven experience designing or materially shaping multi-tier data platforms.
- Ability to defend architectural decisions using performance measurements.
- Experience with Lakehouse technologies (Databricks, Spark, Delta Lake/Iceberg).
- Experience designing schemas for wide, semi-structured event data.
- Experience with streaming ingestion platforms like Kafka.
Responsibilities
- Identify and resolve database performance and scaling bottlenecks.
- Manage and evolve the schema and data model for analytical data.
- Design and construct a tiered analytics architecture spanning system-of-record, low-latency serving, and batch/ML layers.
- Determine optimal workload placement based on empirical performance benchmarks.
- Implement observability tools within the data layer to proactively surface issues.
- Collaborate with ingestion teams to ensure coherence across read/write paths during schema evolution.
