Requirements
- High School Diploma required; Associates Degree or higher preferred.
- 3-5 years of experience as a medical transcriptionist or similar.
- In-depth knowledge of medical terminology, jargon, and editing practice.
- Proficiency in Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.
- Ability to transcribe accurately with a minimum typing speed of 65 words per minute.
- Experience with specialized transcription equipment and voice recognition software.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to function in a fast-paced work environment.
- Valid Driver's License and reliable transportation.
Responsibilities
- Listen to the recorded dictation of physicians and other healthcare professionals.
- Use specialized transcription equipment such as headsets and foot pedals.
- Edit and correct medical dictation performed by speech recognition software.
- Convert transcribed diagnostic test results, procedures, and consultation notes into applicable report formats.
- Ensure uncompromised patient care by transcribing fast and accurately.
- Type out full forms of medical abbreviations, acronyms, and formal versions of medical jargon.
- Identify and follow up on inconsistencies, errors, and missing information within a transcribed report.
- Submit transcriptions to healthcare professionals for their approval in a timely manner.
- Perform additional tasks such as revising patient history and entering medical reports into electronic health records.
- Protect patient confidentiality and adhere to legal requirements.
