Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in design, human-computer interaction, computer science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years combined experience across product design and front-end engineering.
  • Proven experience owning or substantially contributing to a production design system and a Storybook or equivalent component library.
  • Strong front-end development skills in React and TypeScript.
  • Proficiency in modern CSS and design tokens.
  • Knowledge of accessibility best practices.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to document patterns and influence stakeholders.
  • Self-directed and outcome-oriented approach to prioritizing system investments.

Responsibilities

  • Own the Oomnitza design system end-to-end: visual language, interaction patterns, accessibility guardrails, and the rules that keep the product feeling like one product.
  • Maintain and extend the Storybook component library, ensuring components are correct, documented, performant, accessible, and easy for Product Engineers to compose.
  • Build and maintain prototyping tooling such as design tokens, AI-prompt scaffolds, design markdowns, and starter kits.
  • Consult with Product Engineers on UX interactions that fall outside existing patterns and produce new patterns, components, or guidance.
  • Partner with engineering to keep the design system and implementation library aligned and identify when one-off interactions should be promoted into the system.
  • Hold the quality bar for design output, review prototypes against the system, flag drift, and facilitate correct design implementation.
  • Track developments in the design-engineering space, including Figma plugins, AI design tooling, and accessibility standards, to propose team improvements.
