Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in Python back-end development.
- 3+ years of experience with asyncio and threading.
- Proven experience building and shipping LLM-powered features in production Python (e.g., tool calling, agent loops, streaming, evaluation).
- Experience building with the Model Context Protocol (MCP) or comparable agent tool-calling interfaces.
- Experience with local, on-device inference (e.g., Ollama, llama.cpp).
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Experience working effectively in a remote, asynchronous environment.
- Proficiency with Git and GitHub.
- Professional fluency in English (written and verbal).
- Must be currently based and eligible to work within Europe.
Responsibilities
- Design and build the AI foundation of Home Assistant, including conversation APIs, LLM integrations, and typed tool layers.
- Create in-product agents that help users manage homes based on actual configuration.
- Connect Home Assistant to the agentic world using open standards like the Model Context Protocol (MCP).
- Grow the Assist assistant by adding context-awareness, memory, and support for documentation and diagnostics.
- Make AI features easy to discover, set up, and disable while maintaining user control.
- Build AI-powered workflows for project management, including issue triage and contributor tooling.
- Conduct code reviews for teammates and the open-source community.
- Collaborate with the community to investigate and address reported issues.
- Contribute to architectural decisions and changes to the codebase.
