Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of progressive project accounting experience in engineering, environmental, architecture, construction, or professional services industries.
  • Proven experience managing the complete financial lifecycle of projects.
  • Experience administering public sector contracts and understanding compliance requirements.
  • Strong knowledge of various contract structures, including Time & Materials, Lump Sum, Cost Plus, Unit Price, and Not-to-Exceed contracts.
  • Experience partnering directly with Project Managers and operational leaders.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, and data analysis.
  • Strong understanding of project accounting principles and revenue recognition practices.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational abilities with the capacity to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with Deltek Vantagepoint, Deltek Vision, or similar ERP systems is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of projects from setup through closeout, maintaining accurate financial records, contract details, and project documentation.
  • Review and interpret contract terms, including Time & Materials, Lump Sum, Cost Plus, Unit Price, and Not-to-Exceed agreements.
  • Prepare timely client invoices, revenue recognition adjustments, and supporting documentation.
  • Monitor project costs, revenue, accounts receivable, consultant expenses, and subcontractor costs.
  • Deliver reliable financial reporting and support month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Process contract amendments and change orders while maintaining audit-ready documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, client requirements, and public sector contract obligations.
  • Serve as a financial advisor to Project Managers and Operations teams.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to Project Accountants on procedures and best practices.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives for project accounting workflows.
