Requirements

  • Proven experience in research strategy, impact evaluation, and M&E within humanitarian or development contexts.
  • Deep understanding of Emergency Cash programming, Theory of Change development, and outcome-focused measurement.
  • Strong leadership and project management skills, with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience managing research partnerships, contracts, and internal research teams.
  • Expertise in data collection, analysis, and establishing institutional standards for research ethics and data transparency.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to author research briefs, policy papers, and technical reports for an external audience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the impact learning agenda and define the 'canonical' Theory of Change for Emergency Cash (EC) programs.
  • Independently define and prioritize impact-focused learning questions in collaboration with product and fundraising leadership.
  • Develop strategic research projects, including impact evaluations and pilot testing of new research methods across diverse contexts.
  • Establish standards for data quality, human subjects protection, ethics, and compliance for the EC portfolio.
  • Mentor EC team staff and provide intellectual leadership on research design and strategic data usage.
  • Represent GiveDirectly's research externally, authoring policy briefs and shaping the organization's voice in the humanitarian space.
  • Cultivate and manage research partnerships with external institutions and researchers.
