Requirements
- JD from an accredited law school.
- Active, good-standing membership in the California bar (open to options for exceptional out-of-state candidates).
- Real strength in commercial transactions.
- Experience in technology/AI work.
- Substantial in-house experience and/or strong law firm training.
- Proven ability to translate complex business dynamics into strategy.
- Technical background or deep experience working with technical teams.
- Proficiency in using AI tools for legal practice while maintaining confidentiality and privilege.
- Experience across IP, nonprofit, grants, and government (ideal).
- Comfort in a fast, ambiguous, and high-ownership environment.
Responsibilities
- Shape deal terms for outcome-based and productized commercial work.
- Manage legal aspects of foundational AI Alignment research grants.
- Collaborate on first-of-their-kind partnerships with government agencies, research labs, and universities.
- Develop strategies for government contracting and programs.
- Oversee IP processes including ownership, licensing, protection, and publication.
- Manage daily legal workstreams such as NDAs, vendor agreements, employment, and corporate governance.
- Partner effectively with outside counsel on complex matters.
