About Oklo

Oklo is revolutionizing the energy landscape by building advanced fission power plants that provide emission-free, reliable, and affordable energy. You'll contribute to creating a sustainable future by turning nuclear waste into clean electricity, capable of powering communities for decades without refueling. Oklo's first product, the Aurora powerhouse, can produce 1.5MW of electric power and dramatically reduce carbon emissions compared to traditional power sources. The company has already made significant regulatory strides, being the first to receive a site use permit from the U.S. Department of Energy for a commercial advanced fission plant and obtaining fuel material from Idaho National Laboratory.

How We Work

At Oklo, you'll discover a collaborative environment where diverse perspectives are valued, and trust is built through transparency and respect. The team prioritizes humility, focusing on the mission rather than individual recognition. You'll experience a fast-paced, iterative startup culture that thrives on speed, creativity, and resilience. Decisions often happen in open forums, fostering a sense of shared ownership. While remote-friendly, the company emphasizes a strong team dynamic, with employees traveling to headquarters twice a quarter for meetings and events.

Engineering at Oklo

Engineers at Oklo are building the future of nuclear power, focusing on fast reactors with inherent safety features that can operate for decades without refueling. You'll work on designing and deploying advanced fission power technology, leveraging skills in modeling, simulation, and software development. The Aurora powerhouse design draws heavily from principles proven by experimental reactors like EBR-II, which demonstrated natural self-shutdown capabilities. Challenges include optimizing reactor data storage, designing robust CI/CD pipelines for multiphysics analyses, and developing tools for visualizing and evaluating reactor designs. You'll also work on implementing physics kernels and developing optimization schemes to inform design changes, all while ensuring novel approaches meet stringent regulatory requirements.
