Requirements
- Write TypeScript every day and know its type system and large-codebase patterns deeply.
- Have built and run GraphQL APIs in production.
- Ideally have helped migrate a codebase from REST to GraphQL or led similar API modernization.
- Bring strong backend engineering skills and a solid grasp of systems design, reliability, and infrastructure.
- Have built systems that scale.
- Enjoy building shared libraries, patterns, and platform capabilities that other engineers depend on.
- Be able to influence technical direction across teams and explain trade-offs clearly.
- Have experience in an organization with real users and established structure, such as a larger tech company or scaling startup.
- Be comfortable with ownership and ambiguity.
- Be hands-on and happiest writing code; this is not a DevOps, SRE, or developer productivity role.
- GraphQL federation production or operational experience is a bonus.
- Experience with authentication and authorization, search, or graph architecture is a bonus.
- Experience across web, mobile, and backend is a bonus.
Responsibilities
- Lead the REST-to-GraphQL migration, building core components and patterns for other teams.
- Shape GraphQL architecture, including breaking a large graph into independently owned supergraphs and subgraphs.
- Help rework authentication and authorization across Quo in collaboration with affected teams.
- Build reusable libraries and backend patterns for product engineers.
- Design reliable, scalable backend systems.
- Set technical direction for foundational work, including search and API design.
- Bring teams along through design documents, reviews, and pairing.
- Mentor engineers on the Foundations team and across the organization.
