Job Details
- Required Skills
- PythonKubernetesGoLinuxNetworking
Requirements
- Have hands-on experience building and operating automation for bare metal fleets in datacenters or colocation.
- Have experience with both physical hardware and colocation providers, and software-driven fleet management.
- Be strong in Go or Python.
- Have experience designing systems with reconciliation loops and idempotent, failure-tolerant actions.
- Understand what infrastructure tools do under the hood and be able to debug them when they fail.
- Have experience operating through real failures, such as bad hardware batches, flapping BMCs, or halted rollouts.
- Have deep Linux knowledge and solid networking fundamentals, including DHCP, PXE, DNS, and BGP.
- Have working knowledge of Kubernetes sufficient to design the interface between a hardware fleet and its clusters.
- Communicate clearly, be comfortable with ambiguity, and be willing to challenge plans when needed.
- Nice to have: experience operating fleets of thousands of hosts or participating in an early bare metal or datacenter build-out.
- Nice to have: experience with hybrid environments, public-cloud workload migration, DCIM/IPAM tools, provisioning stacks, physical-infrastructure reconcilers, hardware diagnostics, or internal infrastructure platforms and APIs.
Responsibilities
- Bring the first colocation site from an empty cage to production workloads, then scale the foundation to additional sites and thousands of hosts.
- Design low-touch server provisioning from the loading dock to production, including netboot, imaging, BMC-driven discovery, and host identity.
- Partner with network engineering to define fleet network needs, from out-of-band management to production connectivity.
- Build the interface Kubernetes platform teams use to request capacity, inspect host health, and coordinate maintenance.
- Own the source of truth for fleet hardware, software, and the physical environment.
- Automate server lifecycle operations, including burn-in, acceptance testing, remediation, staged firmware rollout, and RMA.
- Build production-grade automation with safeguards for destructive actions and resilience to site-level failures.
- Shape the bare metal platform’s technical and operational direction, make build-versus-buy decisions, and help hire the team.
