- Required Skills
- PythonJavaC++GoRustDistributed Systems
Requirements
- Have 10–18 years of experience in Software Quality Engineering, SDET, or Systems Engineering, with demonstrated Staff- or Principal-level technical impact.
- Bring hands-on experience testing distributed databases or storage systems; NoSQL platforms are preferred, and distributed relational databases are also relevant.
- Understand replication, partitioning, sharding, consistency, transactions, secondary indexes, backup and restore, and cross-datacenter replication.
- Have deep knowledge of distributed systems fundamentals, including consensus, quorum reads and writes, consistency models, split-brain scenarios, clock synchronization, and failure recovery.
- Be able to read, analyze, and debug server-side code in C, C++, Go, Rust, or Java.
- Understand communication protocols, serialization formats, wire-format edge cases, MessagePack, Protocol Buffers, Thrift, and compression codecs.
- Have strong Python programming and software automation skills, plus proficiency in at least one systems programming language.
- Have practical fault-injection experience, including GDB, chaos-style testing, process termination, network partitions, latency or packet-loss injection, disk failures, and corrupted inputs.
- Have experience with multiple testing layers, including unit, integration, API, contract, end-to-end, performance, scalability, upgrade/downgrade, and soak testing.
- Have strong CI/CD platform experience, such as GitHub Actions or Jenkins, including shared test infrastructure.
- Have practical experience integrating AI agents into software testing workflows, including orchestration, tool integration, prompt design, evaluation, and real-world testing frameworks.
- Be able to lead complex investigations, document technical findings, and collaborate across engineering teams to drive defects to resolution.
Responsibilities
- Define and own quality strategy, test architecture, coverage models, release criteria, and risk-based testing priorities for the distributed database platform.
- Design and execute tests for database replication, partitioning, sharding, consistency, transactions, indexes, query planning, backup and restore, and cross-datacenter replication.
- Validate cluster behavior under node, network, clock, disk, latency, upgrade, and long-running stress failures.
- Investigate system-level defects involving memory access, serialization, compression, checksums, and consistency; provide reproducible test cases and technical reports.
- Build and improve automated testing frameworks using Python, pytest, custom harnesses, API testing, and end-to-end automation.
- Strengthen regression coverage and investigate flaky or inconsistent tests across unit, integration, API, contract, end-to-end, performance, scalability, upgrade/downgrade, and soak testing.
- Integrate AI agents into testing workflows for test planning, execution, log and metrics analysis, defect reporting, and failure triage.
- Establish evaluation frameworks using golden datasets, graders, and regression suites for AI-generated outputs.
- Collaborate with product and engineering teams on requirements, feature reviews, technical designs, and testability.
- Lead complex defect-resolution initiatives, mentor senior QEs and SDETs, and turn incidents and defects into regression tests and preventive measures.
