Requirements
- Typically 8+ years building and operating backend systems in production.
- Strong, production-grade coding skills in Go.
- Knowledge of distributed-systems fundamentals, including concurrency, backpressure, retries, idempotency, consistency tradeoffs, schema evolution, and failure modes.
- Cloud and infrastructure experience; AWS is preferred.
- Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, containerized services, deployments, and operational workflows.
- Observability expertise with traces, metrics, logs, dashboards, alerting, and incident analysis; Datadog and/or OpenTelemetry experience is a plus.
- Strong PostgreSQL skills, including schema design, indexing, and query tuning; comfort with OpenSearch and modern data stores.
- Experience with testing strategies, CI/CD hygiene, and safe rollout patterns such as feature flags, canaries, and gradual releases.
- Bonus experience with queueing or streaming systems such as SQS, SNS, Kafka, Kinesis, RabbitMQ, or Pub/Sub.
- Bonus experience with vector databases and retrieval patterns, Redis, MongoDB, Terraform or equivalent IaC, GitHub Actions or similar CI/CD, and backend security basics.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement resilient, observable, and scalable distributed backend systems.
- Build event-driven and asynchronous architectures using queues, pub/sub, background workers, and idempotent processing.
- Own production reliability through performance tuning, incident response, on-call participation where applicable, and systematic improvements.
- Instrument services with logs, metrics, and traces, and help standardize observability patterns.
- Raise engineering standards for code quality, API design, testing strategy, and operational practices.
- Partner with Product and engineers to define success metrics, measure impact, and iterate based on usage.
- Review designs and pull requests, mentor engineers, and shape long-term technical direction.
