Requirements
- Hold a coding certification through AAPC or AHIMA.
- Have at least 2 years of on-the-job experience.
- Have working knowledge and experience with systems such as EMR and billing systems.
- Maintain at least one credential through AAPC or AHIMA.
- Maintain productivity and accuracy rates of 95% or higher.
- Maintain a quality score of 95% or higher.
- Be proficient in Microsoft Excel, including adding to spreadsheets and performing basic formulas.
- Be proficient in Microsoft Outlook, including managing email and scheduling and attending meetings.
- Have a phone, reliable internet connection, and current coding materials such as CPT and ICD-10-CM references.
- Work from home independently in coding skills.
- Meet regular, predictable, and punctual attendance requirements.
Responsibilities
- Code professional-fee inpatient charts for hospitalists and specialties.
- Provide coding services to support clients.
- Calculate ProFee and/or Facility E/M levels using the company-created algorithm.
- Recognize critical-care cases based on patient acuity.
- Apply ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes to the highest available level of specificity.
- Assign diagnosis and procedure codes using ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS.
- Interpret coding guidelines and assess how documentation affects code assignment and reimbursement.
- Maintain compliance with coding ethics, company policies, and privacy and security requirements.
