Requirements
- Extensive experience building and operating distributed backend systems or data services with demanding reliability, scalability, and performance requirements.
- Strong expertise in real-time streaming systems, including concurrency, state management, backpressure, event processing, and recovery mechanisms.
- Deep understanding of data correctness and integrity, including timestamp handling, numerical precision, schema evolution, data corrections, event ordering, and distributed consistency.
- Strong computer science fundamentals and advanced backend engineering skills.
- Experience with Rust, Go, or comparable programming languages.
- Ability to translate ambiguous technical and business requirements into architectural designs, deliverable work, and robust production services.
- Experience owning software systems end to end, including design, implementation, testing, deployment, monitoring, incident response, and operational improvement.
- Technical leadership skills, including influencing architecture across teams, mentoring engineers, and guiding implementation.
- Written and verbal communication skills, including documenting complex technical concepts and collaborating in a distributed, remote-first environment.
- Financial or market data experience is valuable.
- Familiarity with blockchain data and indexing, including EVM-compatible networks or Solana, is a plus.
- Reference data experience, including instrument or entity master data, identifier mapping, effective-dated records, tokenised assets, or fund data, is advantageous.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and operate distributed backend systems for ingesting, processing, storing, and delivering market data.
- Build and maintain streaming infrastructure that handles event ordering, timestamps, duplicates, replay, missing data, recovery, and blockchain reorganisations.
- Develop client-facing data feeds and APIs with defined delivery guarantees, evolving schemas, access controls, and predictable performance.
- Collaborate with engineering teams on reference data models, historical data capture, and integration of new data sources.
- Establish and improve service-level objectives and data quality metrics for latency, freshness, completeness, and correctness.
- Investigate production issues, conduct root cause analyses, and implement durable fixes.
- Own services from design and implementation through deployment, monitoring, production support, and on-call participation.
- Integrate AI-assisted development tools into engineering workflows and develop repeatable practices to improve productivity and quality.
- Lead technical decisions across teams, document architectural proposals, and translate ambiguous requirements into production-ready designs.
- Mentor engineers through implementation, code reviews, and technical discussions.
