Requirements
- Demonstrate strong proficiency in Python and the ability to build maintainable, reliable, and efficient software.
- Bring backend engineering experience designing and operating production systems.
- Understand software architecture and design patterns, APIs, cloud infrastructure, storage technologies, and data structures.
- Have strong fundamentals in test design, automated testing, application security, and dependable production systems.
- Be able to investigate technical issues, analyze logs and application behavior, identify root causes, and implement solutions.
- Be able to understand large codebases and navigate complex infrastructure, legacy components, and interconnected services.
- Use a careful, methodical approach when modifying live systems handling payments, pricing, usage data, and revenue.
- Plan and execute system changes safely, manage technical risks, and minimize disruption.
- Take a proactive, independent approach to solving technical problems and making sound technical decisions.
- Work effectively with engineering, product, growth, finance, tax, and commercial teams.
- No formal degree, certification, or specific length of professional experience is required; relevant projects, open-source contributions, or GitHub work can demonstrate problem-solving ability.
- Payment-provider integration or experience with billing, subscriptions, and usage-based pricing is advantageous.
- Familiarity with stream processing, event-driven architectures, or high-throughput event pipelines is advantageous.
- Experience with financial operations, tax requirements, compliance, or audit-related systems is advantageous.
- Experience deploying and operating applications in Kubernetes environments is advantageous.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain payment and billing systems for transactions, pricing, and revenue operations.
- Build and improve usage-tracking and metering systems while managing performance overhead and latency.
- Modernize enterprise pricing and usage-processing infrastructure, including stream-processing services for usage events.
- Simplify customer upgrades and transactions, support payments through different legal entities, and integrate payment providers.
- Collaborate with Finance and Tax on compliance, auditing, reporting, and financial accuracy requirements.
- Partner with Product and Growth on pricing changes, experimentation, and commercial strategies.
- Investigate billing issues using customer journeys, application logs, system behavior, and code; identify root causes and implement lasting solutions.
- Design and implement APIs, backend services, data storage, and supporting infrastructure.
- Plan and execute migrations and system changes while maintaining backward compatibility and minimizing customer disruption.
- Maintain testing, security, code quality, observability, and operational reliability across financial transaction systems.
