Have 5+ years of experience as a Backend Engineer, preferably in FinTech or payments.
Bring expertise in Java and Spring Boot.
Have experience building and maintaining APIs and services in a microservices architecture.
Have a strong understanding of card payments, issuing, or transaction processing.
Be enthusiastic about adopting AI-assisted development tools, such as Claude Code and AI code review agents.
Be able to self-direct work, from well-scoped tasks to multi-sprint initiatives.
Have experience with containerisation and orchestration technologies, including Docker and Kubernetes.
Have experience using code review to mentor and raise team-wide standards.
Be open to participating in an out-of-hours on-call rota.
Familiarity with crypto/fiat payment rails is a plus.

Design and implement card platform features from tokenization and sensitive card data handling through transaction enrichment and settlement workflows.
Build and maintain integrations with card issuers and payment processors.
Architect systems across multiple services for scalability, security, and PCI compliance.
Own features and projects from inception to completion, breaking complex domains into deliverable work items.
Drive cross-team technical initiatives around shared libraries, patterns, and infrastructure.
Review code across the team and provide constructive, in-depth feedback.
Mentor teammates and help set engineering quality standards.
