Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of professional Java development experience.
- Experience with Java, Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, JDBC, and JPA/Hibernate or MyBatis.
- Production experience decomposing monoliths into microservices, including domain-driven design, Saga, and event-driven integration.
- Experience with Kafka, SQS/SNS, or EventBridge.
- Strong SQL skills, including analyzing, optimizing, and rewriting complex SQL embedded in Java.
- Experience migrating application code from Oracle or SQL Server to PostgreSQL.
- Deep understanding of JDBC, ORMs, transaction management, connection pooling, and database-driven application flows.
- Production experience running Spring Boot on Kubernetes, preferably Amazon EKS, with Docker and Helm.
- GitHub Actions CI/CD experience, including reusable workflows, environment approvals, and OIDC authentication to AWS.
- Test automation experience with JUnit 5, Mockito, Testcontainers, REST Assured, and consumer-driven contract testing.
- Working knowledge of AWS application services including Aurora PostgreSQL, RDS Proxy, KMS, and IAM roles for workloads.
- Regular use of AI coding assistants in delivery work.
- Excellent spoken and written English and ability to work US Mountain Time business hours.
Responsibilities
- Decompose large Java monoliths into microservices by identifying bounded contexts, extracting services with the strangler-fig pattern, and defining REST and event contracts.
- Apply microservice patterns including database-per-service, Saga, transactional outbox, idempotent consumers, and circuit breakers.
- Remediate Oracle- and SQL Server-specific application code for Aurora PostgreSQL, including embedded SQL, stored procedure calls, sequences, pagination, date and error handling, and JPA/Hibernate or MyBatis mappings.
- Work with database migration engineers to align application SQL with the converted target schema and support environment cloning and refresh.
- Deploy and operate services on Amazon EKS using Helm, health probes, JVM and resource tuning, autoscaling, ALB/NLB ingress, and Pod Identity.
- Build and maintain GitHub Actions CI/CD pipelines for Java services, including builds, scanned Amazon ECR images, database migrations, promotion approvals, and rollback.
- Automate unit, integration, contract, API, smoke, parity, and performance testing, and integrate client test suites into the pipeline.
- Use Claude Code to accelerate code conversion and rigorously validate its output.
- Instrument services for Dynatrace and support production cutover through rehearsals, validation, rollback planning, and stabilization.
- Produce engineering documentation and collaborate with client engineers and SMEs through pairing and code review.
