Requirements
- Have at least five years of professional software engineering experience.
- Have strong written and spoken English communication skills.
- Bring hands-on experience with Node.js, TypeScript, and React; experience with Hono and Next.js is ideal.
- Have experience with Go or a strong willingness to use it for latency-sensitive backend services.
- Have infrastructure and reliability engineering skills, including experience with AWS, AWS CDK, and Datadog.
- Understand APIs, event-driven architectures, queues, and stateful services.
- Have experience designing resilient systems that fail safely and investigating false positives.
- Practice observability, including metrics, logging, distributed tracing, error handling, and production monitoring.
- Be able to own work across frontend applications, backend services, databases, and messaging infrastructure.
- Have experience with PostgreSQL and Redis.
- Preferred: Experience in trust and safety engineering, fraud prevention, cybersecurity, or abuse detection.
- Preferred: Experience with real-time enforcement systems such as rate limiting, or rules engines using policy languages such as CEL.
- Preferred: Experience deploying machine-learning or large-language-model detection systems in production and measuring precision and recall.
- Preferred: Knowledge of email security and deliverability concepts, including SPF, DKIM, DMARC, bounces, complaints, and phishing campaigns.
- Preferred: Experience tuning PostgreSQL and Redis performance.
Responsibilities
- Build and operate real-time enforcement systems that assess and act on potential abuse within millisecond-level latency requirements.
- Design scalable detection pipelines that turn email sending, receiving, and account-activity signals into decisions and automated actions.
- Develop and improve detection rules and enforcement policies, ensuring they can be updated safely and evaluated consistently.
- Detect and contain account takeovers and leaked API keys by identifying suspicious behavior and limiting potential damage.
- Establish feedback mechanisms to record enforcement decisions and reversals, measure detection precision, and identify rules that affect legitimate senders.
- Automate investigation, appeal, and bulk-enforcement workflows.
- Build, evaluate, and deploy machine-learning classifiers for spam and phishing detection, validating precision before automated enforcement.
- Maintain observability through structured logs, metrics, tracing, error handling, and audit trails.
- Contribute across frontend interfaces, backend services, databases, queues, and supporting infrastructure.
- Own projects from discovery and technical design through implementation, production deployment, and continuous improvement.
