- Required Skills
- JavascriptC++Regression testingRust
Requirements
- Extensive hands-on experience with at least one browser engine subsystem, including substantial implementation work and understanding of related subsystems.
- Strong proficiency in C++ or Rust.
- Experience navigating large systems codebases and practical knowledge of memory ownership, concurrency, object lifetimes, and performance debugging.
- Ability to develop JavaScript and scripting tools to exercise browser behavior, automate tests, and collect reliable measurements.
- Ability to investigate unfamiliar code, formulate hypotheses, build prototypes, and interpret results while distinguishing implementation effects from workload variations.
- Strong understanding of web platform behavior and compatibility, including document structure, script execution, rendering, navigation, and user interaction.
- Experience with profiling, tracing, regression testing, or conformance testing and reproducible performance evaluation.
- Ability to explain technical optimizations, their limitations, and conditions under which they may fail.
- Curiosity about AI agents and willingness to work directly with agent harnesses and coding tools.
- Strong analytical thinking, technical independence, and a practical experimental mindset.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement experiments across browser engine subsystems to investigate performance, correctness, and developer-tool information.
- Evaluate approaches for representing and exposing browser state, assessing information loss, implementation complexity, and compatibility with dynamic web content.
- Prototype browser engine capabilities for reliable programmatic interaction with websites, including document structure, layout, navigation, and event handling.
- Instrument browser behavior and evaluate implementations through repeatable tasks that measure performance and correctness.
- Document successful and unsuccessful experiments, validate findings across workloads, and assess whether improvements generalize.
- Profile and optimize overhead introduced by new capabilities when supported by measurement and evidence.
- Use AI-assisted coding and analysis tools, validating output through debugging, testing, and reproducible measurements.
- Collaborate with technical specialists to investigate systems, assess trade-offs, and inform the direction of new browser-based products.
