Requirements
- Have a high school diploma or GED.
- Medical billing coursework is desired.
- Patient accounts billing experience is desired.
- Working knowledge of Medinformatix or another patient accounting system is preferred.
- CPT and ICD-10 coding experience is preferred.
- Have good customer service skills.
- Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel, are highly desired.
- Experience with Workday, Internet, Intranet, Meditech, Code Correct, Medinformatix, and Waystar is highly desired.
- Maintain confidentiality and follow HIPAA and company security policies.
- Attend quarterly quality assurance meetings and meet attendance requirements.
- Rotate to other shifts and locations as needed.
Responsibilities
- Review unpaid claims, check payment status, appeal denials, and correct and resubmit claims when needed.
- Follow up with insurance companies about unpaid or incorrectly paid services.
- Help patients understand insurance claim processing and answer collection questions when the Collections Specialist is unavailable.
- Resolve claim edits before submission and correct posting discrepancies to reflect payer adjudication.
- Review payer balances and process refunds as appropriate.
- Track denials and work with vendors to resolve payer issues.
- Research received payments that have not yet been posted and resolve credit balances.
- Coordinate with the credentialing liaison on provider enrollment issues.
- Work with referring physician offices to obtain retroactive authorizations or referral numbers.
- Attend quality assurance meetings, train with peers, and perform peer-to-peer quality assurance.
