Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Two years of medical billing coursework desired.
  • Patient accounts billing experience desired.
  • Working knowledge of Medinformatix or another patient accounting system preferred.
  • CPT and ICD-10 coding experience preferred.
  • Good customer service skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products, including Outlook, Word, and Excel, is highly desired.
  • Experience with Workday, Internet, Intranet, Meditech, Code Correct, Medinformatix, and Waystar is highly desired.
  • Must maintain strict confidentiality and follow HIPAA, PHI, and company security policies.
  • Must pass the required background check and, if eligible, a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.
  • Attendance is required, including quarterly quality assurance meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Review unpaid claims, check payment status, appeal denials, and correct and resubmit claims when needed.
  • Follow up with insurance companies on unpaid or incorrectly paid services.
  • Help patients understand insurance billing and address collection questions when the Collections Specialist is unavailable.
  • Resolve claim edits before submission and correct posting discrepancies based on payer adjudication advice.
  • Research unposted payments, credit balances, and payer issues; process appropriate refunds and write off uncollectible balances within the stated limit.
  • Track and monitor denials, identify payer trends, and establish plans to resolve systemic issues.
  • Work with vendors, credentialing liaisons, referring physician offices, and clients to address payer, enrollment, authorization, referral, and group-billing issues.
  • Attend policy and quality assurance meetings, perform peer-to-peer QA, and support patient eligibility status requests.
