Requirements
- Be at least 21 years old by January 12, 2027.
- Be able to commit to the full six-month internship term.
- Demonstrate strong UX writing skills, including clear, concise, brand-aligned copy.
- Use systems thinking to identify patterns and design reusable components.
- Create polished, intuitive visual and interaction designs with attention to detail.
- Be comfortable working on macOS.
- Be proficient with standard design tools such as Figma and Adobe Creative Cloud.
- Use AI design tools such as Figma Make, Claude, and ChatGPT to explore and prototype ideas.
- Track projects from handoff through completion and meet deadlines.
- Explain design decisions and rationale to non-designers.
- Work iteratively, listen to users, adapt to feedback, and collaborate.
Responsibilities
- Partner with the Principal Researcher on a research project, conducting user interviews, usability tests, and surveys and translating findings into insights for product decisions.
- Work with engineers and a product manager to design and ship a feature tested live on Kiva.org, from early flows and wireframes through launch.
- Build interactive prototypes in Figma to explore ideas, test with users, and communicate designs to the team.
- Contribute at least one new component or primitive to Kiva’s design system alongside its design and engineering leads.
- Present work in weekly design critiques, give and receive feedback, and explain design decisions to designers and non-designers.
