Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- 7+ years of professional software development experience, with a strong primary focus on backend engineering.
- Deep proficiency with Node.js, TypeScript, and Next.js API routes, including building and operating production services and APIs.
- Experience with relational and document database design and data-access patterns.
- Experience deploying and operating backend services on a cloud platform; Azure experience is preferred.
- Strong understanding of backend architecture, API design, authentication and authorization, caching, messaging, asynchronous processing, resiliency, and scalable service design.
- Experience with testing, CI/CD, monitoring, performance optimization, and secure software development.
- Ability to provide technical leadership through architecture decisions, code reviews, mentoring, and engineering standards.
- Candidates must reside in the Eastern or Central U.S. time zones and be available primarily during 9 AM–5 PM CST on weekdays.
- Must be able to attend an in-person interview at the Dallas headquarters if selected as a finalist.
- Must maintain a dedicated work area separate from other living spaces and have reliable access to a high-speed internet connection.
- Experience in healthcare technology, health insurance, or another regulated industry is preferred.
- Familiarity with HL7 FHIR, X12, or NCPDP is desirable.
- Experience with WebSockets, event-driven architecture, GraphQL/tRPC, or monorepo tooling is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Lead backend architecture and system design for services, APIs, asynchronous and real-time processing, rate limiting, resiliency, and relational and document-based data models.
- Design and implement backend features using Node.js and TypeScript.
- Develop Next.js API routes and Node.js services covering API contracts, authentication and authorization, caching, messaging, and database access.
- Create stable, documented interfaces for frontend and mobile engineering teams.
- Provide technical leadership through code reviews, guidance, mentoring, and coding standards.
- Optimize backend performance and support scalability, reliability, security, and high availability.
- Establish backend testing strategies and CI/CD practices for production delivery.
- Align backend systems and engineering practices with healthcare security and regulatory requirements, including HIPAA.
- Document architectural decisions and technical approaches for engineering teams and stakeholders.
- Collaborate across engineering functions to resolve technical challenges and improve backend architecture and development practices.
