Requirements
- Demonstrate fluency in English, including clear written communication.
- Have hands-on experience designing, building, and operating applications in Java, Kotlin, and/or Scala.
- Have experience with a web framework such as Spring.
- Have led and delivered multiple domain-significant projects validated in production over a meaningful period.
- Have experience with large-scale consumer applications on AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure using microservices architecture.
- Demonstrate expert knowledge of REST API design and development for mobile and web use.
- Have strong relational database experience with MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, Oracle, or MS SQL, and non-relational database experience with Cassandra, Redshift, DynamoDB, or HDFS.
- Design services and dependencies for security, maintainability, operability, scale, and failure cases; author and defend design documents.
- Define alert thresholds, SLIs, SLOs, and telemetry, and design for graceful degradation and monitoring.
- Follow OWASP secure coding practices and remediate vulnerabilities within established SLAs.
- Demonstrate expert proficiency in Agile development and the ability to prioritize and communicate in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain backend services, APIs, and data integration layers for product features.
- Author domain service design documents (EDDs) and defend them in review.
- Design and optimize database schemas and queries for performance and reliability.
- Review code and designs, uphold engineering standards, and contribute to backend testing infrastructure.
- Define alerting, SLIs, and SLOs and improve monitoring for backend modules.
- Lead technical responses to domain incidents, resolve issues, and write root-cause analyses.
- Own delivery of domain roadmap work and service design and implementation end to end.
- Partner with Product and business stakeholders to clarify feature requirements and success measures.
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and technically lead Backend Engineers.
