Requirements
- Have at least 1 year of direct clinical surveillance experience abstracting hospital-acquired infections within the last year.
- Have at least 1 year of direct clinical surveillance experience with CIC within the last calendar year.
- Have experience with multiple patient medical record systems (EMRs) and clinical databases.
- Have intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
- Bring direct clinical experience working as an Infection Preventionist.
- Hold an RN, LPN, RT, RVT, or RCIS credential.
- An active CIC certification is preferred.
- Demonstrate analytical and critical-thinking skills, accuracy, and attention to detail.
- Be able to learn new systems and technology and work independently.
- Demonstrate organizational and time-management skills to manage concurrent accounts and shifting priorities.
- Maintain responsibility for keeping PHI secure and confidential.
Responsibilities
- Categorize, code, summarize, interpret, and calculate registry or case information from patient medical records.
- Submit accurate data to specified registries and measure data repositories.
- Prioritize concurrent tasks and team requests, meet deadlines, and flag obstacles or propose solutions.
- Navigate electronic medical records and registry or case-entry tools, and troubleshoot technical issues using team resources.
- Contribute to team best practices, data dictionaries, abstraction guidelines, and business-rule documents.
- Identify opportunities to streamline tasks and processes.
- Keep current on mandated regulatory and publicly reported data requirements from federal, state, payer, and other agencies.
