Requirements

  • Have 1–3 years of design experience and a keen interest in design for highly illustrated properties and products.
  • Provide a portfolio demonstrating a strong understanding of typography and the creation of effective layouts.
  • Be proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator, with emphasis on InDesign.
  • Know color correction, retouching, and file preparation for digital and print output.
  • Be able to work conceptually and under pressure with internal and external stakeholders to meet deadlines.
  • Bring strong communication and organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Be self-motivated, able to prioritize in a fast-paced environment, and able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Illustration skills are a plus.
  • Familiarity with Adobe After Effects is a plus.
  • Understanding of basic UI and UX principles is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Design high-visibility campaigns focused on Middle Grade, Picture, and Board books.
  • Create printed and digital marketing materials for web, social, and email campaigns, as well as promotional collateral, point-of-purchase displays, and signage.
  • Develop fresh concepts with campaign teams and ensure visual consistency across campaign touchpoints.
  • Assist design team members in managing and delegating campaign design work to freelance talent.
  • Communicate with colleagues, artists, and agents.
  • Prepare files for final printed or digital release and manage project tracking and file archiving.
  • Work with Book Design staff to acquire current assets and with Production staff to ensure projects are on spec.
  • Stay current on illustration, design, technology, and publishing trends.
